| Breeders: Jackie Hitchings / Paul Leishman Are very proud to be members of the German Shepherd Dog League of NSW We have no hesitation in recommending future German Shepherd Enthusiasts to join this very well organised and supportive club. Paul and I first became interested in our breed in the mid 80’s when we purchased a male German Shepherd as a pet. After the untimely deaths of our first 2 pet males we decided to purchase a female pup to change our luck. When ‘Astra’ reached maturity we bred our first litter from her and developed an interest in breeding. As first time breeders we were naturally very proud of the progeny and decided to show them without knowing what was involved, after several show experiences of coming mid order to last we decided to go home and look in the mirror to see where we were going wrong. We realised then that we had to change our bitchline and set out to obtain the best possible bitch available. After extensive searching throughout Australia for at least 12 months we were very fortunate to come across the late Mr Sam Bonifacio (SV judge) who was judging a show in Brisbane. We were extremely impressed by Mr Bonifacio’s confidence, enthusiasm and expertise in his judging and after the show we immediately wrote him a letter enquiring about the purchase of a bitch from his breeding that would be suitable for both the show ring and as a foundation brood bitch to start our kennel. At this point of time Mr Bonifacio was experimenting with Artificial Insemination with frozen semen from Europe. He offered us the choice of a pick puppy from 3 litters sired by Edenblut Orkan who was the reigning Australian Producing Sire of that time or 2nd pick bitch from a Artificially Inseminated litter that he was breeding in conjunction with Mrs Ethel Langford in Melbourne. The Sire of this litter was Eng. Ch. Moonwinds Golden Mahdi - a highly rated UK Show dog & son of Eiko V Kirschental – (Mahdi’s 2 litter brothers Harrier and Emir where also Eng. Champions) their dam Eng Ch. Moonwinds Golden Mirage was one of the UK’s Top Show bitches of her day. We made the most important and biggest decision of our life and chose an unseen 2nd pick Bitch from the Artificially Inseminated litter. We still remember vividly the day we picked her up from the airport as being the happiest day we’ve ever had in our 11 years in dogs, she was so excited to see us and flew out of the crate into my arms and we both experienced the same gut feeling that she was going to be something really special and she was. We called her ‘Inka’ and she had everything any German Shepherd owner could ever wish for – an Eiko Vom Kirschental grand daughter of beautiful type, gorgeous jet black & mahogany red colour, soundness, intelligence and a bonding and communicating ability that is apparent in her progeny today. Her producing ability has been second to none. We have only bred on average 2 litters per year since starting our breeding program and now 11 years down the track every single animal in our kennel is related to her. Today our patient, controlled breeding program developed with our meticulous selection of stud dogs and progeny has reaped it’s rewards by making our dogs competitive at the absolute highest level in Australia today. Not forgetting the added benefits of Inka’s unique soundness producing abilities. Leishjaclyn Kennels are proud to say we have never produced an elbow grading on any animal we’ve bred and have absolutely outstanding hip results. Percentage wise for soundness this kennel stands 2nd to none. Refer to our Hip/Elbow page |
